If you can't love yourself how the [heck] are you going to love anybody else? - Rupaul![]() In this life it's beautiful when we find someone who knows how to extend true love to us. Sometimes parents, sometimes friends. The least common of these, however, is the love we extend to ourselves. Is love for one's self conditional? "When I'm skinnier." "When I have more friends." "When I have a significant other." This seems wrong doesn't it. That's because it is. So love for self should be unconditional. Cool. Got it. But that's easier said than done right? Learn to meditate. Learn to be alone. Create affirmations for yourself. Say them to yourself in the mirror everyday. Actually say them. Take vitamins. Do a face mask. Garden. Build something. Create. Show yourself how wonderful you are and allow yourself to fall in love with yourself. So let's say we love ourselves. Great! Should we then still strive to improve ourselves? Does improving myself mean I don't like myself as I am?

Now, watch this video by Brené Brown and record your thoughts! Vulnerability can feel and seem like weakness because it IS humble. But vulnerability really is power! As a performer, it is our job to show up in vulnerability. To share raw(sometimes ugly) emotions. To give permission to those in your audience to be their authentic selves too! This is what will change your audience's lives. Share an experience where you were vulnerable. Share how it was received. Share how that made you feel. ALSO share your thoughts from the video! |
