Hello again all of our Broadway Academy friends!
We are so excited for this year’s camp! We’ve been preparing the last few months and we think we are headed into another great year of camp!
In the past six years we’ve watched this camp really grow despite all odds. Many people don’t know about what’s been going on behind the scenes but because of Pat Majors and the rest of the Allegro Wolf Art Center board and the charitable donations they've received of every size, the Allegro Wolf Arts Center has narrowly overcome some VERY difficult odds and successfully kept the center and, thereby, the Broadway Academy alive! Their hard work and love for this camp and center can NOT be overstated. We would not be here without them.
We have fought every year to keep this camp alive which brings us to this year and this letter.
We love this camp and the change we see it making in the lives of the students who attend. Anyone who’s been a part of it would agree that it’s a truly magical week where we all get to escape the world for a little while and be our unabashed artistic selves! It’s just wonderful.
What most DON’T know is that every year we aren’t sure if we’re going to be able to financially make it happen.
That’s because, up until this year, The Broadway Academy has been VERY reliant on donations, fundraisers, and the grant we receive from the Nebraska Art Council. We are beyond grateful for every bit of help we’ve received, you all have literally kept the lights on, but we’re realizing we can’t depend on them as heavily as we have been and still build a reliable camp that will be here year after year.
So, we did some math and we’ve decided to change some things. Here's what we figured out:
We started with the TOTAL cost of camp (food, facilities, power, flights, ect. without the help of fundraisers and grants) and divided it by how many students we get in a week. We discovered that each student would then have to pay $800* for the week of camp! That’s a little bit more than $260! Now, we only show you this to help everyone realize that up until now The Broadway Academy has actually been extending a $540 scholarship to EVERY. SINGLE. STUDENT that has come to camp!
Now, we obviously want to give as many students as possible the chance to attend camp and keep the cost of camp as low as we can but in order for the Academy to survive we've had to make some changes.
Now, we understand that asking for $800* a student is too much considering it was not even HALF of that up until now. SO! We’ve decided instead to just decrease the amount we scholarship every student by $115 which means we will be offering a scholarship to every student this year of $425. That leaves the remaining portion of tuition at $375.
We realize this increase might make it hard for some of you to attend camp so we’ve gone to work to figure out how we can still help get you here! Here's three ways we've come up with!
We know this is a shift for everyone and we would hate for it to keep anyone away from camp this year. If you would like to talk more about it, we would love to hear from you. You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling/textng my personal cell phone at (702) 743-8797. (I’m really good with texts!)
We love you all and we will do whatever we have to to see you back at camp this year.
